European Porcelain & Glass Page 1 Page 1 Icon: Meissen porcelain pastoral group, marked with underglaze blue cossed swords to the base inscribed 613. In red to the underside, circa 1740, painted in colours and modelled by J.J. Kaendler as a seated sheperdhess playing a lute beside a gentleman offering her a flower and holding a tricorn hat under his left arm, standing in front of a tree, the shaped base with a lamb and applied with flowers and leaves, height 14.4cm.,

European Porcelain & Glass Page 3 Page 3 Icon: Meissen armorial plate from the Podewils Service, c.1742, painted with the arms of Podeuils and scattered sprigs of Indianische Blumen, the shaped rim moulded with gilt shells and with a line border, crossed swords mark in underglaze blue, impressed numeral, gilt mark P., painter's mark i in iron-red, 25cm, 9 7/8 in., this plate is part of the service made for Graf Heirich von Podewils (1695-1760), Count Pomerania, Minister to Frederick the Great and Knight of the Prussian order of the eagle. He may have received the service as a diplomatic gift in connection with the second Silesian War of 1740-42, during which Saxony was allied with Prussia. The form of the service followed the design of that executed by Johann Joachim Kaendler in 1741 for the Jagd Service of Clemens August, Elector of Cologne.
