A pair of rare early Chinese Canton enamel ladles/spoons, Qianlong (1736-95), with gilt peacock-head terminals, the necks painted with peacock feathers, the interiors painted with pink bats and clouds with a central cloud motif, painted to the exteriors with peony and trailing foliage, the bases with with fruiting sprays

Spink & Son. Purchased by the vendors in the 1960s. This piece was loaned by the vendors to be included in an exhibition of Chinese Painted Enamel at the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford in 1978, curated by Michael Gillingham.
