A plate with this pattern is illustrated in Ayers, John, 'Chinese and Japanese Works of Art in the Collection of her Majesty the Queen', Vol. I, p. 348, pl. 983.

Chinese Loving cup and cover, late Jiaqing, c. 1800-1810, with moulded double handles, decorated with two roundels containing sprays of flowers, with green decorative bands, height: 10 1/2in., 26.7cm; condition: chips to rim, glaze crack and chip to rim of cover, finial re-stuck. The form owes its origin to European requirements and may have been inspired by Georgian silver shape. Traditionally, loving cups were large vessels with several handles intended for communal drinking on festive occasions.

Chinese Famille Rose ‘Judgement of Paris’ plate, Qianlong (1736-95), decorated in the centre with a scene from Greek mythology where Hermes brings the goddesses Hera, Athena and Aphrodite to Paris (the mortal son of King Priam of Troy) for their beauty to be judged, the rim with gilt scrollwork, diameter: 9in. (23 cm.). In this depiction, Athena has been replaced with Eros, the God of Love, and the plate shows the final stage where Paris is awarding the golden apple to Venus. The popularity of this scene resulted in numerous reinterpretations on export porcelain, but The Judgement of Paris by Rubens (1577-1640) is generally accepted as the main source for the design
