Chinese blue and white plate, early Kangxi (1662-1722), of a 'Master of the Rocks' style landscape, decorated with a mountainous river landscape with trees in the foreground, with a pavilion and boat, the border decorated with three sprays of pomegranates, with three sprays of pomegranates to the reverse, diameter: 8 5/8in., 22cm, condition: the edge with a small chip and slightly polished. The term 'Master of the Rocks' was first coined by Gerald Reitlinger, and the style lasted from about 1645 to 1690. Chinese blue and white moulded saucer, Kangxi (1662-1722), with undulating rim, decorated in the centre with a 'Long Eliza' seated at a table holding a lotus flower, beside a jardinière of flowers, surrounded by ten alternating panels containing 'Long Eliza' in a fenced garden and sprays of flowers, the reverse with a continuous foliate scroll, with the character 'Yu' to base, diameter: 7 7/8in. 20cm, condition: 2 hairlines and frits. The 'jade' mark Yu was traditionally called the F-mark in the Netherlands and is often found on good quality Kangxi blue and white export porcelain. Chinese blue and white beaker vase, Kangxi (1662-1722), decorated to the centre with quatrefoil cartouches containing two fan shaped panels variously enclosing a seated man in a fenced garden underneath a flowering branch and pagoda, with beribboned precious objects, with flowering branches including lotus and peony to the base and upper body, within a flowerhead and ruyi patterned bands. Height: 10 5/8 in. (27 cm.) Condition: restored chip to foot, hairline to rim. For a similar example see, Jorg, Christiaan, ‘Chinese Ceramics in the Collection of the Rijksmuseum: The Ming and Qing Dynasties’, pl. 284, p. 257. This pattern is also found on other blue and white vessels of differing shape.

(5 in.). The Conch Shell is a symbol of royalty, dignity and high rank, the 'Sacred Lungs of Buddha' and spiritual authority and is also one of the Eight Buddhist Symbols.

Chinese blue and white plate, Kangxi (1662-1722), decorated in underglaze cobalt blue with similar central scenes of two ladies collecting sprigs of prunus in a rocky garden with children, the cavetto with diaper pattern and five cartouches containing blossoming prunus, the reverse with a selection of the hundred antiques to the rim and apocryphal Chenghua mark within concentric circles to the base, diameter: 27.5cm. (10 13/16in.), condition: rim chips and three hairline cracks. The hundred antiques are ancient symbols comprising of the eight precious things, or babao (auspicious symbols of good fortune) the symbols of the Four Fine Arts (chess, calligraphy, music and painting), with other representations of scholarly objects, vessels and flowers. The examples present on these plates include the pearl, for the granting of wishes, the pair of books for scholarly learning, and the lingzhi, sacred Daoist fungus of immortality.
