    Dutch Delft polychrome 'Pompadour' tile, c. 1610-40,  in a wooden frame, depicting a quatrefoil containing oranges, daisies, foliage and scrolls, dimensions: 13cm x 13cm; condition: central break restored. Three versions of this tile are illustrated in Pluis, Jan, 'The Dutch Tile', p. 279, pl. A.01.21.01-03. The design for this tiles are thought to take their name from a dress pattern made for Jeanne-Antoinette Poisson, Marquise de Pompadour.   SOLD
