Indian painting on paper of an elephant, circa 1800, depicting a prince seated on an elephant in a howdah with an attendant and driver, with inscriptions, height: 9.5cm wide, 16.5cm high; condition: minor wear. Elephants were considered of great value in Indian courts, and were often painted in the Mughal Court. For example, there is a similar painting in the National Gallery of Australia, Accession No. NGA 91.1340.
