Pair of Chinese famille verte phoenix kendi, Kangxi (1662-1722), of quatrefoil section, decorated in bright enamels to the body with panels containing the four flowers of the seasons with further lobed sections of cellular ground with diaper and flowerheads, a bracketed green stipple band to the middle section below further panels containing flowers emerging from rockwork, the necks with floral cell pattern sections widening to rims with green stipple and flowerhead design, the moulded spouts of stylised phoenix head form, height: 22.8cm.(9 in.). The flowers of the four seasons comprise prunus (winter), peony (spring), lotus (summer) and chrysanthemum (autumn). Together, the flowers symbolise good fortune and safety throughout the year.
