Antique Chinese & Japanese PorcelainEuropean Ceramics & Works of Art
Near pair of Chinese blue and white ginger jars, Kangxi (1662-1722), with wooden covers and stands, the jars painted in a bright underglaze cobalt-blue with cherry blossoms on a brilliant underglaze blue cracked-ice ground,
Dimensions:
Height without stands or lids: 12.7cm (5in. ); overall height: 17.8cm (7 in.)
Condition:
Good but the wooden lids have faults
Notes:
Cherry blossom paired with the motif of cracking ice symbolises the thawing of winter and the coming of warmer days. Jars with this design were consequently frequently given as New Year's gifts.
