A Baccarat miniature close-packed millefiori glass paperweight, signed and dated 'B 1848', set with brightly coloured canes including silhouettes of a goat, monkey, horse, dog and stag, the canes are drawn towards the centre of the base, the interior of the cushion is filled with filigree twists, diameter: 4.1cm. Close millefiori paperweights range in size from miniature to magnums of 4inches. The inner filigree twists prevent light from seeping between the canes, thus enhancing the effect of opaque solidity.
